about

as you might have guessed my name is alex. i was born right on the boarder of the swiss alps, in a town called appenzell back in 1989. as an it system engineer i spend a lot of time indoors, therefore i try to spend my freetime outdoors, hiking, paragliding and bouldering

how it all began…

on a snowy winter day in 2015 i fell in love with paragliding when my instructor taught me the mechanics of free flying

once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return

one of my first flights at the practicing hill in wasserauen

since 2019 i’m working for freewings as an assistant, which was shortly followed by becoming a student again. ever since i’m learning the skills to master a tandem glider in 2021. to challenge myself even more, i decided to start the training to become a flight instructor in the same year. i’m really looking forward to more magical moments with and without paragliders in the future

alpstein crossing

the alpstein crossing family originated from the freewings community and the hfc alpstein. the event challenges paraglider in the disciplines hike&fly. at home in the mountains, the team and all contributors help to make the event in the appenzeller alpstein a reality. i have the opportunity to work in the organizing committee of alpstein crossing with an awesome team. It’s safe to say, that this is a one-of-a-kind hike&fly race. a few impressions of the last races

sharing is caring – biplace

tandem flights are super fun. thinking of sharing a passion with somebody – awesome. i started tandem flights in 2021 and I fly as professional tandem pilot since 2022. see you up in the air, maybe even as my passenger 🤙

prepare for takeoff

it’s hard to describe the feeling when the glider inflates and generates more and more lift in combination with the acceleration. imagine you are running and with every step you feel a bit lighter until you are no more touching the ground. all you hear is the wind and all you feel is absolute awesomeness. just like in this picture at hartmut’s place on madeira island.

3244 metres above mean sea level

18-19kg of payload is what i carried on this volbiv (french volare – fly & bivouac – camping). hiking  up to the wildstrubel in the bernese alps was definitely the highlight of 2021

bella ticino & almost a year older

a super fun flight with my buddy (cyril hertz) in the ticino region of switzerland. take off at cardada cimetta to brontallo and back, which results in an around 50km flight. it was something special to tell my nonflying friends the next day – which was my birthday
